Blood

ACT 1

But in these cases
We still have judgment here; that we but teach
Bloody instructions, which, being taught, return
To plague the inventor: this even-handed justice
Commends the ingredients of our poison'd chalice
To our own lips.

- If you do something wrong like Macbeth did by killing someone you have to pay the price and set good examples in order to be respected and have peace and goodness.

For brave Macbeth--well he deserves that name--
Disdaining fortune, with his brandish'd steel,
Which smoked with bloody execution,
Like valor's minion carved out his passage
Till he faced the slave;

- Macbeth was brave and attacked Macdonwald with his sword and cut him up quickly. In this case blood execution was a good thing.

Come, you spirits
That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here,
And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full
Of direst cruelty! make thick my blood
Stop up the access and passage to remorse,
That no compunctious visitings of nature
Shake my fell purpose, nor keep peace between
The effect and it!

- Lady Macbeth is reading a letter from Macbeth and she's thinking that she wants to be more manly so she said make my blood thick so that she can become careless and more tough. In this case blood is used in a more manly sense because Lady Macbeth wants to become more like a man.

ACT 2

Go carry them; and smear The sleepy grooms with blood.

- Lady Macbeth was telling Macbeth to go smear Duncan's blood on the guards to make it look like the guards killed Duncan and not Macbeth. Blood is being used in a murderous and sneaky sense.

Will all great Neptune's ocean wash this blood Clean from my hand?

- Macbeth is wondering if any wanter could be after to wash the blood from his hands after killing Duncan. In this case blood is being used in a sense that Macbeth did something bad and that no water, not even the Neptune's ocean could clean it from his hands.

Mine eyes are made the fools o' the other senses, Or else worth all the rest; I see thee still, And on thy blade and dudgeon gouts of blood, Which was not so before.

- Macbeth saw blood on a dagger which wasn't there before. Blood is being used as a sign of death.

ACT 3

And question this most bloody piece of work, To know it further.

When we’re properly dressed for the cold, let’s meet and discuss this bloody crime to see if we can figure anything out. Right now we’re shaken up by fears and doubts.

Here lay Duncan, His silver skin laced with his golden blood; And his gash'd stabs look'd like a breach in nature For ruin's wasteful entrance:

- Duncan, his white skin all splattered with his precious blood. The gashes where the knives had cut him looked like wounds to nature itself.

Their hands and faces were all badged with blood; So were their daggers, which unwiped we found Upon their pillows:

-The guards hands and faces were all covered with blood. So were their daggers, which we found on their pillows, unwiped.
